Cameroon now has 385 establishments of microfinance (EMF), at the end of 2025; and entitled to continue their activities during the year 2026. The list was distributed by the Minister of Finances, Louis Paul Motaze in an official communication.

The number of authorized institutions increased from 390 at the end of 2024 to 385 at the end of 2025, marking a decline of 5 structures. This publication aims to discourage users from using illegal EMFs on a regular basis reported in a sector considered to be critical for the Cameroonian economy.

Indeed, the landscape of establishments in microfinance is divided into three distinct categories: first, second and third. Thus, 6 first-class EMFs work in a independent, 31 second category structures and 22 EMFs organized in a network in the Central region have been recorded. The Littoral shows 6 establishments in the first category, 31 in the second category and 27 networked EMFs. L'Adamaoua houses two second category institutions.

In the Far North, only microfinances from second and third categories are allowed to practice.

On the financial level, in 2024, the Cameroonian EMFs granted 659.4 billion CFA francs in credits to economic agents, according to figures from the Central African Banking Commission (Cobac), body of regulation of the Cemac zone. This amount is up by around 41 billion. of FCFA in one year and corresponds to 57.6% of the market share of micro credit financial in the subregion.

According to Cobac data, the credits distributed by the Cameroonian EMFs over the period are three times higher than those of the EMF in Congo and six times higher at the competitive exams financial institutions of EMFs in Gabon
