In Kenya, the central bank is considering the launch of a digital currency. The central bank released a digital currency discussion paper this week to seek public feedback on the initiative.

East Africa's leading economy plans to launch a digital version of the Kenyan Shilling, the local currency. The central bank paper “examines the applicability of a possible central bank digital currency (CBDC) in Kenya. This is part of the initiatives of CBK (Central Bank of Kenya) to ensure informed policy decisions regarding innovations”, announces the issuing institute.
