President Abdelmadjid Tebboune confirmed the 8 last February, obtaining a loan of more than 3 billion dollars from the Share of the African Development Bank (ADB) to finance the line Laghouat-Ghardaia-El Menia.

The objective of the project is to open up the South, facilitate the transport of mineral resources and offer a new path strategic logistics in Sahel countries. This section of 495 km marks the beginning. of a “fairly ambitious” project. It is a rail corridor trans-Saharan which will connect Algiers to Tamanrasset over 2,000 km, with a future connection to Niger. The repayment period for this facility financial period will last 13 years.

Algeria plans to double its existing network to reach 10,000 km by 2030, before aiming 15,000 km in the longer term, according to the Ecofin agency. With this corridor, Algeria opens a strategic corridor in the heart of the Sahara, ready to transform transport and the country's economy.
