Alhaji Lai Mohammed urges federal and state governments to do
tourism a priority and to strengthen partnerships with the private sector.
This call was launched during an interactive session organized as part of
the event “Experience Olumo: Celebrating Heritage, Inspiring Tourism”, which
was held at the Olumo Rock Tourism Complex in Abeokuta.
The former minister indicated that festivals
cultural and infrastructure needs in Nigeria are drivers
essential for stimulating growth. He described tourism as a source.
viable alternative income, capable of making a significant contribution
to national development if it is properly exploited. He emphasized the
need for a favourable environment and incentives to attract
private investments in tourism and creative industries.
According to Mohammed, the growth of tourism in Nigeria
depends heavily on infrastructure. For him, the country is missing
basic tourist infrastructure, in particular event centers
specially designed to host major international events.
The former minister said that Nigeria should take advantage of its culture and festivals to develop tourism, emphasizing that it has a unique cultural asset despite a limited number of natural attractions.
