The Central Bank of Congo (BCC) recalled the 16th December 2025 to financial couriers operating in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) their obligation to allow customers to make transfers of funds in national currency. This reminder was made during a meeting chaired by the governor of the BCC, André Wameso, with the officials of these establishments.

The Central Bank of Congo is increasing its pressure on financial messaging to impose the use of the Congolese franc in money transfers, a key lever in its de-dollarization strategy of the economy. The Bank Central Congo (BCC) reminds financial messengers their obligation to offer transfers in Congolese francs. She attacks by this occasion to one of the channels of dollarization of the economy Congolese. This development is part of a larger strategy aimed at to rehabilitate the national currency and to reduce structural dependence on American dollar. According to data presented by the BCC, more than 80% of Domestic transfers operated by financial messengers are now carried out in foreign currencies, while international flows are almost exclusively in dollars. A situation that the institution considers to be the opposite in the spirit of exchange regulations, which does not authorize the use of currencies only on the basis of an agreement between the parties, without ever excluding national currency, the only currency recognized by the Constitution.
