Egypt and Djibouti have taken a new step in the strengthening their economic and logistical cooperation. Sunday 28 December, the Egyptian Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir, signed several agreements with the Djiboutian authorities concerning on the creation of a high-capacity container terminal and the development of a vast logistics area, said an official statement from ministry.

The future container terminal will have a capacity annual of 5 million TEUs, with a wharf of 1,450 meters long and a tie rod 18 meters of water, according to the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority (DPFZA). This project is supported by an alliance between the Holding Company Egyptian for maritime and land transport (HCMLT) and society Djiboutian Great Horn Investment Holding (GHIH).

In this context, Elsewedy Electric and the Terminal Management Company to Doraleh Containers (SGTD) have signed an agreement for the realization of the “Green Port Solar” project. It plans to build a solar power plant of 23 MW, equipped with a battery storage system, on an area of 30 hectares in Doraleh. This installation will exclusively provide energy specific to port operations, reducing terminal exposure to fluctuations in fuel prices.
