UEMOA Council of Ministers for the year 2025 was held on Monday, December 29
in Cotonou. On the occasion, the leaders draw up a promising picture of
subregional integration, while stressing the challenges ahead.
The West African Economic and Monetary Union
(Uemoa) is showing significant progress. The Council of Ministers welcomes this
result during its session held on Monday at the National Directorate of Central Bank of African States
from the West (BCEAO) . The work focused on the situation
economic and monetary policy, financial perspectives, decisions
budgets and governance, each point being presented with figures
accurate in order to ensure transparency and accountability.
The real gross domestic product (GDP) of the Union has
grew by 6.6% in the third quarter 2025, after 6.5% in the quarter
previous. Year-on-year inflation was -1.3% at the same
quarter, up from 0.3% previously. On an annual average, inflation is
projected to 0% in 2025 against 3.5% in 2024. The global budget deficit
is expected to fall from 5.4% of GDP in 2024 to 3.9% in 2025, then to 3.3% in
2026. Foreign trade has improved thanks to the rise in
exports of gold, cocoa and petroleum products, as well as the decline in
import costs.
Despite these successes, the Council identified several
risks: geopolitical tensions, security threats, climate change
and social pressures.
According to President Nacanabo, “the Union has demonstrated
that she knows how to succeed. Now, it must accelerate, innovate and be more daring
to provide our peoples with stability, prosperity and shared hope.”
The updated financial outlook 2026-2030
of the West African Bank
development board (Boad) were approved, in order to
enable the institution to pursue its mission while maintaining
sustainably its financial balances.
The Council also adopted the decision on the revision of the rate of wear and tear in force in force in Uemoa
.
