The African Development Bank (AfDB) will inject about $5 billion into integrative projects in the ECOWAS community space over the next 5 years.

The Abidjan-based institution wants to focus on the development of transport and technological infrastructure as well as climate resilience, it announced on November 26, thanks to the launch of its regional integration strategy for West Africa (DSIR-AO) 2020-2025.

The document focuses on the diversity and opportunities of the region while pointing to its socio-economic challenges.

The two main challenges of the institution chaired by Nigerian Akinwumi Adesina will be to improve the resilience of cross-border infrastructure, support the development of regional businesses and foster the development of intra-regional trade and financial integration in West Africa.
