The contract, announced on Monday by the French energy group, plans to sell 28 terawatt hours (TWh) over a period of 15 years, consolidating TotalEnergies' presence on the American energy market renewables.
The electricity will be produced by two solar farms currently under development in Texas, whose construction is due to begin in second half of the year. The combined installed capacity will reach 1 gigawatt (GW), a significant volume intended to meet the growing energy needs of digital infrastructures.
This agreement is part of the “power purchase” agreements” (PPAs), long-term power purchase contracts allowing for companies to secure a renewable energy supply to a predefined and stable price. This mechanism protects buyers against volatility in the energy markets while supporting the financing of new green production capacities.
TotalEnergies and Google have already collaborated on several similar projects, especially in Ohio and Malaysia at the end of the year 2025, illustrating a strategic partnership focused on the decarbonization of digital activities of the tech giant.
According to the results of the third quarter 2025, TotalEnergies had a gross solar portfolio of 21.5 GW at scale worldwide, including 6.9 GW in North America, confirming the acceleration of its repositioning in renewables.
The choice of Texas is also a climate issue. Indeed, the State has a high carbon intensity, with production electricity is still highly dependent on gas and coal. Each kilowatt hour generated an average of 263 grams of CO₂ on the quarter, according to ElectricityMaps, Let's say one level Ten times greater to that observed in France.
Through this agreement, TotalEnergies and Google thus reinforce the energy transition in one of the electricity markets the most carbon-intensive in the United States, while supporting the energy boom of data centers.
