Egypt received one billion euros from the European Union under the aid programme macro-financial intended to support its economy, announced the ministry Egyptian International Cooperation Department. This disbursement is part of a global package of 5 billion euros (approximately 5.82 billion dollars) set up by Brussels.

According to authorities, Cairo should receive two other instalments of a cumulative amount of 3 billion euros during the year 2026, thus bringing a share substantial amount of the envelope available to the country in the coming months. This aid is aimed at strengthening macroeconomic stability, supporting reforms structural and alleviate fiscal pressures in an economic context marked by persistent financial challenges.

Egypt had already received a first payment under this program in January 2025, confirming the European Union's continued commitment to its strategic partner in North Africa. The Egyptian authorities consider this support to be a key lever to support reforms current economic conditions and strengthen the resilience of the national economy in the face of to external shocks.
