Airtel Africa and Vodacom Group have reached an agreement to share network infrastructure across multiple African markets, aimed at accelerating digital inclusion and extending affordable connectivity to underserved communities.

The agreement, subject to regulatory approvals, will see the two companies share fiber optic networks and tower infrastructure to accelerate the deployment of high-speed Internet services, especially in underserved areas.

By taking advantage of everyone's strengths, telecom giants aim to accelerate the deployment of digital services, offer faster Internet speeds, and improve the reliability of services.

Businesses say this will help expand access to digital services in underserved areas, bridging the continent's digital divide.

Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub described the deal as a “proactive step” towards a sustainable and inclusive digital future for Africa.

“As we realize our ambition to connect 260 million customers by 2030, the need for scalable and cost-effective network solutions is becoming increasingly important,” he said.

Airtel Africa CEO Sunil Taldar said the collaboration is in line with the company's mission to make its network available “even in the most remote locations.”
