On 4 August 2025, Ghana increased the price of cocoa at production by 62.58% to support its farmers in preparation for the 2025-2026 season. This measure is expected to put pressure on other major cocoa-producing countries, such as Côte d'Ivoire.

Rising cocoa producer prices could further increase global cocoa costs, at a time when supply chains are tightening due to climate shocks and aging farms. This increase could further increase global cocoa costs, at a time when supply chains are tightening due to climate shocks and aging farms. According to the Minister of Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, the price paid to producers would increase from 3,100 dollars (nearly 2678 euros) to 5,040 dollars (4,353 euros) per ton. According to him, “the cocoa farmer remains an essential pillar of our economy, and this government is determined to ensure that it fully benefits from the gains made.”

This measure is part of the campaign commitments of President John Mahama, elected last December, who promised to increase the share of export revenue paid to producers to nearly 70% of the value of the price of cocoa at the time it was loaded for export.
