The three-month reference copper on the London Metal Exchange lost 1.3% to 9,575 dollars per metric ton at 10:10am GMT, its lowest level since June 3.
American Comex copper futures fell by 1.9% to $4.74 per pound, bringing the Comex premium on LME copper to $879 per ton.
In China, the most traded aluminum contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) grew for the third day in a row, gaining 0.4% to 20,425 yuan per metric ton, outperforming other SHFE metals.
“Aluminum, compared to other metals, has performed fairly strongly recently, thanks to sustained domestic market demand and lower SHFE inventories,” said an analyst at a Hangzhou based futures firm.
Aluminum stocks in SHFE warehouses fell to 110,001 tonnes during the week ending June 13, their lowest level since February 2024, after falling by 54% since the end of March.
