On November 30, 2022, the 1st forum on securitization in Africa took place in Lomé. This forum was dedicated to the specific securitization market of the countries of the UEMOA zone. It was organized by Deloitte and Asafo & Co with the collaboration of some partners, including the World Bank, the West African Development Bank (BOAD) and the Regional Securities Exchange (BRVM).

Securitization is a financing instrument and source of liquidity, potentially promising in UEMOA and in Africa. This potential is far from being fully exploited. In fact, the 1st securitization forum therefore made it possible to take stock of the last 12 years of securitization and to identify concrete actions aimed at innovating the sector, in order to accelerate its development. This forum brought together more than 120 actors from the finance ecosystem on the topic of “securitization”, a process used to create asset-backed securities.

It allowed stakeholders to discuss the process and its regulatory framework in UEMOA. The objective is to present the advantages, both for companies (SMEs, Large Companies, etc.) and for banks, which can benefit from other sources of financing, to manage their customer account and improve their working capital requirements (BFR).
