According to the BCEAO, Côte d'Ivoire, the leading economy of the UEMOA, mobilized 40.6% of the region's exports, far ahead of Burkina Faso (15%) and Senegal (13.9%). The information was made public on Monday, November 14, 2022 by the BCEAO.

West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) trade was dominated by Côte d'Ivoire in 2021. According to the document published on Monday, Côte d'Ivoire represented 40.6% of UEMOA's exports of goods in 2021. It has made elephant countries the leading supplier of exports in the region, ahead of Burkina Faso (15%), Senegal (13.9%) and Mali (13.6%).

When it comes to imports, Abidjan also took first place with 31.1% of UEMOA's external purchases, compared with 20.9% for Senegal, 14.1% for Mali and 10.2% for Burkina Faso. According to the BCEAO, “the Union's trade balance improved in 2021 with respect to African and European partners, mainly due to the increase in sales of gold, cocoa and rubber” and Côte d'Ivoire is a producer.
