From Thursday 10 to Friday 11 November 2022, the ministers responsible for the digital economy of the member countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) met in Cotonou. This meeting allowed them to examine draft Community texts and the regional programme for the development of the digital economy.

During their consultations in Cotonou, the ministers discussed the draft decision establishing the Committee of National Digital Regulators of the UEMOA Member States. According to the resident representative of the UEMOA Commission in Benin, Yawovi Batchassi, “the development of digital technology has led to the emergence of new players and new related areas whose field falls outside the exclusive competence of telecommunications regulators.

For him, it is necessary, in order to establish genuine trust in digital technology, to take into account these new actors and areas when addressing digital issues in the community.”
