On Monday, October 24, 2022, Nigeria officially launched a Special Agro-Industrial Transformation Zones (SAPZ) program with the approval of the African Development Bank.

Nigeria has bet on the processing of agricultural products with high added value. Indeed, in order to achieve its objective of diversifying its economy, it has launched a program of special zones for agro-industrial transformation (SAPZ). Thus, the SAPZ aims to enable agri-food and agro-industrial companies to set up shop there, in order to develop value chains for certain crops considered strategic: maize, cassava, rice, soybeans, cacao, poultry and livestock products and are located in rural areas. of eight states and fully supported by digital and logistical infrastructures. They are jointly financed by ADB to the tune of $210 million, the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), which have provided $310 million, and the Nigerian government has provided $18.05 million.
