Indian export-oriented companies and businesses located in special economic zones are allowed to export flour made in From imported wheat. The government has therefore given in to requests from food processors to allow shipments of value-added products.

Food processing companies will be allowed to import wheat. In May, wheat exports (and restricted rice exports) were banned after a sudden rise in wheat in food temperatures hit the harvest in mid-March. Making the country's wheat flour exports jump by 200% between April and July 2022 compared to the previous year.

In August, the export of wheat flour was banned by the government. This has driven up wheat flour prices on the local Indian market.

In Nigeria, the latest report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released last Wednesday announced that Nigerian imports of wheat, wheat flour E and other wheat-derived products increased from 4.6 million tonnes (Mt) in 2018/19 (July/June) to 6.58 Mt in 2020/21, 6.18 in 2021/22. According to the USDA, wheat imports from sub-Saharan Africa rose from 22.5 Mt in 2018/19 to 26.58 Mt in 2020/21 and fell slightly to 26.36 Mt in 2021/22. In sub-Saharan Africa, wheat consumption in sub-Saharan Africa is expected to reach 34.92 Mt in 2022/23, significantly higher than pre-Covid volumes of 32.97 Mt in 2019/20.
