On Monday, October 3, 2022, the Sierra Leone central bank said it had raised its main policy rate by 100 basis points to 17%. She thus warns that inflationary pressures in this West African country should remain high until the end of the year.

In July, overall inflation accelerated to 29.47% before moderating to 28.15% in August due to a fall in inflation not related to diet. In a statement published on its website on October 3, the bank said that “The economy remains in an environment of stagflation” and added that domestic economic activity remained weak and should remain so in 2023. The statement noted that “real GDP growth is projected at 3.6% and 3.4% in 2022 and 2023, respectively.”
