With the intention of contributing more to the country's revenues, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council reiterated the federal government's commitment to increase cocoa production to 500,000 tons per year.

The federal government was relentless in its attempt to ensure that cocoa exports contributed more to Nigeria's income, according to the promotion adviser sales representative from the NEPC Ekiti Export Assistance Office, Iyabode Abe. The technical intervention program aims to stimulate cocoa production for export under the theme “Improving cocoa production in Ekiti State for global competitiveness”. It was organized by NEPC where the council distributed 3,000 hybrid cacao plants to select 60 farmers in Ekiti State.
