The soaring price of oil and basic commodities is a crisis that has spared almost no country. Senegal is also a victim, the government is taking initiatives.

The Minister of Trade, Consumer Affairs and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Abdou Karim Fofana, informed that Senegal is not at the margin of the soaring prices of oil and staple foods.Thus, in order to put an end to this situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian war, many initiatives are taken by the Senegalese government.

One of the initiatives is the implementation of the Economic and Social Resilience Program (ESRP) with a response fund called "Force Covid-19" amounting to 1,000 billion CFA francs. This program will provide relief to households and businesses. Also, the State has made efforts on the tax front to support the private sector. According to Abdou Karim Fofana, "with a view to strengthening social protection and supporting households, the government has released an envelope of 620 billion CFA francs, including 300 billion in fuel, electricity and gas subsidies by September 30, 2022; 157 billion in tax revenue foregone to avoid the increase in the price of rice, food and fuel.157 billion to forego tax revenues to avoid the increase in the price of rice, wheat, corn, sugar and oil; 120 billion to increase the salaries of public servants; 43 billion to transfer money to support 543.43 billion in cash transfers to support 543,000 vulnerable families.
