The president of the Chamber of Mines, Daour Dieng, announced that companies in the mining sector paid more than 24 billion FCFA in royalties to the State of Senegal in 2020.

According to Daour Dieng, the contribution of mining companies to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was estimated at 162 billion FCFA in 2020, an increase of more than 30 billion FCFA compared to the year 2019. The mining sector is among “the six priority sectors identified” by the State of Senegal to bring “growth to 7% by 2035".
