In the first quarter of 2022, the Ministry of the Economy noted a 51.4% increase in the turnover of the Société Gabonaise de Refininage (SOGARA), the country's only refinery.

The Gabonese Refinery Company recorded 132.3 billion FCFA in turnover in the first quarter of 2022. Compared to the year 2021 when this figure is estimated at 87.3 billion FCFA, the Ministry of the Economy estimates the increase at 51.4%. The same source indicates that this development was driven by “the increase in the prices of petroleum products for industrial customers”.

However, SOGARA's performance has generally declined, with the volume of crude oil processed falling by 10.6% to 219,497 metric tons, in line with the poor supply of crude oil (Rabi). This is the cause of an increase in imports of refined products (+39.8%), as a way to ensure that local demand is satisfied.

Also, sales of refined petroleum products have all declined in marketing both domestically and abroad. This is particularly the case with atmospheric residue (-34.4%), kerosene (-60%), diesel (-33.3%), butane (-67.5%) and super (-27%).
