The Tanzania Coffee Research Institute (TaCRI) has invented new varieties of Arabica and Robusta coffee plants. In an inclusive interview with the Sunday News, a TaCRI economist, Leonard Kiwelu, revealed the impact of these varieties on productivity.

The newly developed Arabica and Robusta coffee plant varieties are doing wonders. Many farmers are seeing their livelihoods improve. According to Leonard Kiwelu, with the income generated from higher yields of good quality coffee, farmers across the country have been able to increase their incomes, thereby reducing poverty. He explained that farmers have increased yields per coffee tree, achieving an increase in total yields on their farms, which has enabled them to increase their incomes.
