International Monetary Fund Head of Mission in Senegal, Gemayel Edward hosted a press conference on Tuesday on the dynamics of the Senegalese economy. According to him, the pace of growth has been slowed by exogenous shocks including the war in Ukraine and sanctions against Mali.

The surge in world oil and food prices, as well as the slowdown in economic activities in Senegal's main trading partners, are expected to slow real GDP growth to around 5%, or half a point of percentage that initially planned," said the head of mission, Gemayel Edward, at a press conference. He said inflation is also expected to reach 5.5 percent this year, driven mainly by rising food and energy.
