According to the Latest World Bank briefing note on migration and development published on May 11, 2022, $49 billion was sent to sub-Saharan Africa in 2021 by migrants.

The multilateral cooperation institution indicates that remittance represents a 14.1% increase over 2020 after an 8.1% decline in 2019. The cost of sending $200 to the region averaged 7.8% in the fourth quarter of 2021, down slightly from 8.2% in 2020. The World Bank forecasts a 7.1% increase in remittances to sub-Saharan Africa in 2022.
