The Ivorian government, meeting in the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, May 4, announced the suspension of customs duties on wheat imports for a period of three months. The objective of this measure is to protect the purchasing power of the population.

This measure, which has taken effect since April 13, is intended to maintain the price of bread and preserve the purchasing power of consumers. The new decision comes two months after the announcement of nine measures to stem inflation. These reforms include price caps on refined palm oil, sugar, milk, rice, concentrated tomatoes, beef and pasta during the period from January to March and an expansion of the list of consumer products.
