Although trade within the framework of the AfCFTA officially started on January 1, the problems relating to the rules of origin were still not resolved, which made it difficult to identify the products which could benefit from the preferential tariff regime provided for by the agreement. Member states of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) concluded negotiations on rules of origin on Saturday, a move that is expected to further reduce tariffs on goods within the African continent.
