Deputies voted on Monday two bills aimed at strengthening the fight against corruption. One focuses on the right to access information, the other on the protection of whistleblowers. They complement the OFNAC law and the asset declaration, adopted yesterday in an extraordinary session

.

The first reform involves the creation of a new National Office for Combating Fraud and Corruption (OFNAC). This independent institution, attached directly to the President of the Republic, succeeds the former structure deemed “ineffective”. It will be composed of twelve members appointed by a call for applications for a single term of five years. Its prerogatives include access to banking information, the hearing of persons implicated and the administrative freezing of assets

.

The second adopted text establishes the mandatory declaration of assets for certain public officials, namely: magistrates, managers of strategic sectors or even agents who manage budgets greater than 500 million FCFA. The objective is to prevent conflicts of interest and illicit enrichment, in accordance with the Senegal 2050 Agenda focused on transparency.
