Gabon and Turkey signed eight major agreements in strategic sectors on Thursday in Ankara, sealing an ambitious partnership based on the transfer of skills, financial support and security cooperation.

On the occasion of the official visit of Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema to Ankara, at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey and Gabon signed three cooperation agreements in the energy, hydrocarbon and mineral resources sectors, the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources announced on Thursday.

Turkish Minister Alparslan Bayraktar and his Gabonese counterpart for Water and Energy, Philippe Tonangoye, have concluded a memorandum of understanding on the development of joint renewable energy projects, as well as on the sharing of expertise in electricity transmission and distribution.

A second agreement, signed with the Gabonese Minister of Oil and Gas, Sosthène Nguema Nguema, aims to explore investment opportunities and support trade and oil and natural gas exploration and production projects.

Finally, a third mining cooperation protocol was signed with the Gabonese Foreign Minister, Michel Regis Onanga M. Ndiaye. This partnership provides for increased collaboration in the exploration and development of mineral resources.

“These agreements pave the way for new opportunities in key areas, from hydrocarbons to renewable energies, to power grids and mines,” Alparslan Bayraktar said on X.
