The American Embassy in Nigeria has announced that Nigerians wishing to travel to the United States on a short-term visa will now have to make do with a single entry permit valid for three months.

The new U.S. visa restriction ends the possibility, previously offered, of obtaining multi-entry visas valid for up to five years. “We would like to emphasize that, as is the global norm, visa reciprocity is an ongoing process, subject to review and change at any time, including by increasing or reducing the number of entries allowed and the validity period,” says the statement published on the embassy's website. According to an official at the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria did not apply a similar policy towards American citizens.
