The International Monetary Fund (IMF) concluded, on Thursday, May 22, a financing agreement of 365 billion CFA francs, or about 630 million dollars, with Chad. This was at the end of a mission by the fund that took place in N'Djamena from 5 to 16 May 2025

.

This new program aims to create the budgetary conditions necessary to finance the National Development Plan “Chad Connection 2030”. It also intends to promote effective governance, inclusive and sustainable growth, while addressing the country's persistent fiscal weaknesses. One of the objectives is to reduce the public deficit to an average of 1.5% of GDP over the duration of the program

.

“Chad is now at a turning point in its history. After a political transition completed in February 2025, the Chadian authorities want to implement an ambitious plan of reforms and projects as part of their National Development Plan (PND), Chad Connection 2030,” the statement said. He added: “the PND should focus on four key areas: infrastructure development, social policy and essential public services, economic and industrial development and the improvement of the business climate.”

This new agreement comes after the closure of a previous program signed in 2021, in the amount of 570 million dollars, the results of which had not been met with the satisfaction of the Bretton Woods institution.

At the end of the discussions, the IMF emphasized the importance for the Chadian government to implement the reforms needed to correct macroeconomic imbalances and consolidate external stability. In particular, he emphasized the need to maintain an adequate level of net foreign assets.
