During the annual spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington, Nigeria officially requested a $2.25 billion loan from the World Bank.

Nigeria intends to strengthen national finances and support its economic development. Last Saturday, the Nigerian government said in a statement that the country is waiting for the approval of its loan request by the World Bank's board of directors, scheduled for the month of June. The statement said that the requested funds would include $1.5 billion for development policies and $750 million for results-based programs.
