The 2024 Kenya Water and Sanitation Investors Conference ended with a call to accelerate investments to ensure universal access to water and sanitation by 2030.

Kenya needs around 995 billion Kenyan shillings (around $7.5 billion) to achieve universal access to water and sanitation by 2030. At the 2024 Water and Sanitation Investors Conference, participants emphasized the need for collaboration to help governments bridge the financing gap through private sector financing, commercial bank blended finance, development finance institutions, and capital markets

En effet, Mecuria Assefaw, Head of the Water Security and Sanitation Division at the African Development Bank, emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships for ensure water supply and access to sanitation for all.

For his part, Julius Korir, Principal Secretary at the Kenyan Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, reiterated Kenya's political goodwill for PPP projects in the water sector, noting efforts to align water law with PPP legislation in order to operationalize such projects.
