By the end of 2024, the final investment decision for the colossal $25 billion Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline (NMGP) will be taken. The statement was made by Mele Kyari, Group CEO of Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL

).

On the sidelines of the 2024 edition, Mele Kyari announced that the Moroccan gas pipeline exceeds all planning. “I think we should see the FID - Final Investment Decision - by the end of the year. That's our plan,” Kyari said, in response to a question about whether the project was still in the planning stage, according to media reports

.

First designed in 2016, the pipeline is one of the most ambitious energy projects in the world. Once commissioned, it would become the second longest gas pipeline in the world, after the West-East gas pipeline in

China.

The NMGP will span 5,600 kilometers and is expected to cross 13 African countries, covering the energy needs of an impressive 400 million people along the West African coast. The gas pipeline aims to transport gas from Nigeria to Europe
