The American Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield announced on Monday, February 26, at the 46th Summit of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Guyana that Benin plans to deploy 2,000 soldiers in Haiti as part of the multinational Security Support Mission.

Benin's decision is part of the multinational security support mission in Haiti approved by the UN Security Council in October 2023. The objective of this mission is to provide operational support to the Haitian National Police (PNH) and to restore stability in the country. In reality, the security situation in Haiti is marked, among other things, by gang violence in specific areas.
