Several countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union, including Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Togo, among others, have raised the SMIG (guaranteed interprofessional minimum wage) in recent months. According to the ranking in the CEMAC and UEMOA zone, Benin is in 9th place out of 13
African countries.In Benin, the decree raising the SMIG was adopted in December 2022 with the effective date of January 1, 2023. The SMIG rose from 40,000 FCFA to 52,000 FCFA (an increase of 30%). The SMIG in Togo has been 52,500 FCFA since January 1, 2023 compared to 35,000 FCFA previously. In Côte d'Ivoire, it has increased by 25%, from 60,000 FCFA to 75,000 FCFA on January 1, 2023. In Burkina-Faso, an increase of 46.65% is announced at the end of negotiations between the platform of trade union federations and employers. The SMIG should soon increase from 30,684 FCFA to 45,000 FCFA
.According to the ranking made by Sika Finance taking into account the six CEMAC countries and 7 UEMOA countries (except Guinea-Bissau), Gabon is in the lead with 150,000 FCFA as SMIG. Equatorial Guinea is in 2nd place (128,000 FCFA). Benin is ranked 9th behind Togo, Cameroon and Chad. The last three countries are Niger (30,047 FCFA), the Central African Republic (36,000 FCFA) and Mali (40,000 FCFA)
