In its “2022 Annual Report”, the BCEAO analyzed the budget revenue situation in UEMOA member countries. Thus, the UEMOA Zone recorded an increase of 1,490.7 billion in budget revenues in 2022

The increase in budget revenues came mainly from tax revenues, which increased by 1,427.6 billion or 10.5%, mainly in connection with the continued economic recovery. The tax burden increased to 13.7% compared with 13.6% a year earlier, while grants increased by 238.6 billion or 16.2% to 1,714.9 billion, driven by increased support for economic recovery from technical and financial partners. Overall, the budgetary revenues and grants of the Member States of the Union increased by 9.8% from one year to the next

According to the Bceao, after two years of strong pressure on public finances, due in particular to the scale of spending related to measures to respond to the Covid-19 crisis and post-Covid recovery, budget execution in UEMOA member states, during 2022, took place in a context of price tensions at consumption.
