L' former Panamanian president Ricardo Martinelli and 14 other co-defendants are being prosecuted for having bought with public money the majority of the shares of the press group Editora Panama America, owner of the eponymous daily newspaper, as well as from the popular newspapers Critica and Dia à Dia in 2010. On the eighth day of the hearing, prosecutor Emeldo Marquez pronounced a conviction against him and 12 of his co-defendants. The prosecutor called for the “maximum sentence” of 12 years in prison provided for in the Panamanian Penal Code. On the other hand, the prosecutor requested the acquitting of two co-defendants
