The 2022 annual report on the functioning and evolution of UEMOA mentions that Senegal would be the economic champion of the eight member countries of the Union by the end of this year. It was the fifth largest economy in the WAEMU in 2022 with a growth rate of 4.8%.

Senegal was ahead of Togo (5.8%) in 2022 with a growth rate of 4.8%. Benin recorded (6.0%), Côte d'Ivoire (6.8%) and Niger (7.1%). This year, according to the report, economic activity in these member countries is expected to continue its dynamism, with an average growth rate of 7.2% at the end of 2023, compared with 5.8% in 2021 and 6.1% in 2022. Thus, for the current year, Senegal should be in the lead with 10.1%, according to forecasts made by the UEMOA. Benin would end up with 6.5%, Burkina Faso with 6.0%, Ivory Coast with 7.3%, Guinea-Bissau with 5.7%, Mali with 5.1%, Niger with 7.0%, and Togo with 6.6%. As far as price developments are concerned, the average annual inflation rate in the Union in 2023 would be around 5.5%.
