A monthly note has been published on the National Consumer Price Index (INPC). The National Agency for Statistics and Demographic and Economic Analysis (ANSADE) author of this publication noted a drop in the consumer price index of the order of 0.7% during the month of February 2023 compared with the previous month.

The fall in INPC brings the inflation level to 10.1%, in terms of change over the last twelve months, and to 9.0% in terms of year-on-year terms. Indeed, according to ANSADE, “inflation continues its upward trend, however, reaching 10.1% after 9.9% in January, 9.6% in December 2022 and 9.1% in November 2022.” For the national agency, this increase is explained by the acceleration of price increases for “food and soft drinks” (16.2% against 15.9% in January), those for “housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels” (4.7% against 4.3% in January) and finally those for “furniture, household items and routine household maintenance” (5.7% against 4.9% in January).

With regard to food products, ANSADE's note mentions that, on a monthly basis, their prices fell by 1.0%, mainly due to prices in the “vegetables” (-3.3%), “bread and cereals” (-1.5%), “meat” (-1.0%) and “oils and fats” (-0.1%) subgroups. However, the prices of “milk, cheese and eggs” (+1.7%), “coffee, tea and cocoa” (+1.3%), “fruit” (+1.1%), “fish and seafood” (+0.2%) and “sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery” (+0.1%) increased, thus helping to dampen this trend.
