A manager of United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) announced that the African economy is expected to grow by 3.9% in 2023 compared to 3.6% in 2022.

On the occasion of the 55th session of the Commission United Nations Economic Affairs for Africa (UNECA) a report was presented on recent economic and social developments in Africa on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. On this occasion, the director of the Macroeconomics and Governance Division of UNECA, Adam Elhiraika indicated that Africa's GDP growth, which had increased from 4.6% in 2021 to 3.6% in 2022, is expected to rebound to 3.9% in 2023. According to him, “the slowdown in the global economy, high prices fuelled by the conflict in Ukraine, climate change, and the deterioration of international economic and financial conditions had a significant impact on Africa's growth in 2022.” For him, the 3.9% growth forecast for 2023 was mainly driven by growth in the eastern, northern and western subregions of the continent.

In the developing world explains the director, Africa was the fastest-growing region after East and South Asia (4.5%), followed by Southeast Europe (3.2%) and Latin America and the Caribbean (2.1%).
