This decrease is explained by the closure of five mines linked to the security context, according to the ministry in charge of Mines and Quarries.
The Ministry of Mines and Quarries estimated last Monday, March 13, before the deputies of the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT) that gold production has fallen, from 66.8 tons in 2021 to 57.6 tons in 2022, a decrease of 13.73%. According to the Ministry of Mines, the artisanal sector generates an additional annual production of around 10 tons of gold.
En réalité, cette baisse de production a resulted in a reduction in revenues for the benefit of the State and local authorities. According to the ministry, “at least 2,500 employees have been unemployed since the closure of five industrial mines” out of 17 in Burkina Faso.
