For an aggravated fraud laundering case, Bernard Laporte was taken into custody on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. He is retiring from the presidency of the French Rugby Federation. The Paris Criminal Court has sentenced the president of the French Federation Bernard Laporte to two years in prison with a suspended sentence, 75,000 euros amende and a two-year ban on exercising any office in connection with rugby. He was convicted of passive bribery, trading in influence, illegal taking of interests, concealing the abuse of corporate assets and abuse of corporate assets on 13 December. The new case that opened on Tuesday is also different from the one that sent it to the Paris Criminal Court last September. It is now in the hands of the National Financial Prosecutor's Office.
