An awareness-raising workshop on illegal ADOGBE-type savings collection activities was organized on 2 December 2022 by the National Agency for the Supervision of Decentralized Financial Systems (ANSSFD). The inventory is delivered nine months after the ban.

The so-called “ADOGBE” tontine was banned on March 4, 2022 by interministerial order No. 538-C/MEF/ MISP/DC/DG-ANSSFD/DGA /DAR/059 SGG22. The workshop organized by the National Agency for the Supervision of Decentralized Financial Systems (ANSSFD) has three objectives. Who are, to take stock of the situation after the ban, to discuss the formalization of actors and finally to raise public awareness about the risks of a resurgence of this activity on the eve of the end of the year.

An examination of the post-ban situation reveals that the activity of the toontine called “Adogbè” has shown a significant downward trend. Thus, the estimated amount of deposits collected rose from 8.5 billion FCFA in 2021 to 1.5 billion FCFA in 2022; the customer base rose from 1,717,135 in 2021 to 738,835 in 2022. These figures in fact show that the effects of the ban are positive after a few months, and reassure the authorities that this activity must be carried out by the formal actors, the SFD.
