When it comes to fraud and transparency, a survey is conducted among more than 1000 users of digital financial services. It refers to significant risks. Ecosystem actors should work actively to counter this phenomenon.

40% of digital financial services (SFN) users in Côte d'Ivoire lost money using digital financial services, while 88% were exposed to at least one risk in 2021. At least that's what a report published on September 29 by the independent think tank Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) in collaboration with the financial inclusion consultancy Horus Development Finance shows.

This report is based on a survey of a representative sample of 1045 people over the age of 18. They used mobile money at least once during the 12 months preceding the survey.

The 40% who lost money said that the loss occurred, either by responding to a fraudulent message, or by paying more than expected, or as a result of a malfunction during the transaction. Consultative Group to Assist the Poor said that the risk of fraud continues to prevail despite the efforts of digital financial service providers to make their customers aware of and to counter scams.

In addition, 40% of digital financial services users say they have encountered difficulties related to their limited capacities. This is the difficulty in navigating the menu or an error on the recipient's number. It should be recalled that Consultative Group to Assist the Poor is hosted by the World Bank and brings together thirty organizations that seek to advance financial inclusion.
